Kingfisher Storm Beer Review - The Brilliant in Blue

Kingfisher storm is another branch on the Kingfisher tree, part of a portfolio that includes the classic Kingfisher Premium, Kingfisher Strong, Kingfisher Ultra, Kingfisher Ultra Max, Kingfisher Ultra Witbier and Kingfisher Blue. You can read our review on Kingfisher premium here.

Kingfisher Storm is a very strong, easy drinking beer that is smooth and refreshing. It is much like other superlagers in that it’s easily noticeable just how strong the beer is. Strong, but not too strong. Kingfisher Storm clocks in at a whopping 8% ABV (Alcohol By Volume), a beer to be drank with caution. When poured, the indian beer holds a rocky, thick, creamy head and is a golden yellow colour. When sniffed, distinct notes of barley are discovered which are also reaffirmed when the beer is drank. Obviously there is a huge hit of alcohol which is not be unexpected with a beer so strong. Other notes of malt and caramel are detected. The beer is surprisingly leisurely to drink given that it is borderline rocket fuel.

The beer comes in two formats; a large silver 500ml can and the more famous, blue 650ml bottle. The blue bottle is very eye catching and stands out on most shelves as it is one of the few beers packaged in blue bottles. The can and the bottle are both emblazened with the famous Kingfisher logo. Both also have the same branding on them, with both saying Kingfisher Storm, Strong Beer.

A relatively new product on the market, Kingfisher storm was brought to market by united breweries to directly compete with Carlsberg who had steadily gained a 15% market share. The specific beers that it was brought out to compete against was Carlsberg Elephant, Tuborg Strong and Tuborg Classic. These three beers having the following ABV’s:

  • Carlsberg Elephant 7.2% ABV

  • Tuborg Strong 6.1% ABV

  • Tuborg Classic 4.6% ABV

Statistically, India’s beer market has been traditionally driven by strong beer, which accounts for roughly 80% of the country’s overall volume. So this obviously lends it’s hand to Kingfisher Storm as it falls into the strong beer category. Kingfisher Storm is just one of the few strong beers in the portfolio, the other strong beers ABV’s are as follows:

Kingfisher as of writing, maintain a chokehold on the Indian alcohol industry and the quality of Kingfisher storm helps them continue their solitude at the top of the foodchain.

Kingfisher Storm varies in price across India, with a maximum retail price set for the product in most places. But the price of Kingfisher Storm is usually around 150 INR. This also depends on the size of the bottle, with the smaller 500ml format costing 125-150 INR as previously mentioned but the price of Kingfisher Storm in the larger 650ml format is roughly 160-180 INR.
