Burnside Brewery Summer Moon Double IPA Beer Review - Bursting With Flavour
Summer Moon Double IPA is craft beer produced by the Burnside Brewery in Aberdeen, Scotland. They are an award winning, independent brewery that is located between the Cairngorm Mountains and the North Sea. The company produce a wide range of beers, including blondes, pale ales, IPA’s, red ales and dark beers.
The brewery have won numerous awards over the last few years. Notably they were voted Brewery Of The Year 2022 for Grampian and Northern Isles by CAMRA. Their beers have also won a wide variety of awards:
SIBA Award for Premium Pale Ale, Scotland 2021, for Stone River 5% IPA
Great Taste Award 2021 for Fire Light 6.8% Red Ale
Great Taste Award 2019 for Snowed In 7.5% Wee Heavy
A hidden gem that’s admittedly a bit of a treasure hunt to find. You can find this beer in a service station. When smelled, notes of hops are immediately apparent as this beer is absolutely bursting with flavour. Additionally, one will also discover light floral notes which are delicate on the nose. When the beer is decanted from its opaque prison it’s striking just how dark the colour is; a dark honey or amber colour would be an appropriate description. Upon my first sip I genuinely said wow, this beer is absolutely bursting with hoppy flavour from the get go. Measuring at 6.8% ABV, it’s seriously hoppy flavour means the beer is relatively bitter and has a lingering aftertaste of that original punchy hop taste. This very apparent flavour is accompanied by a delectable light citrusy taste. Finally some fruity notes of passion fruit and mango make this beer a sensational package.
I would seriously recommend this beer to any lover of IPA as it scratches the hoppy itch. Additionally the beer can be found on Burnside Breweys’s own website to purchase if the service station is out of reach.
